The fancy chicken is a breed of chicken that is raised for its appearance. This means that unique features are the main purpose of their breeding.

Their bodies are not bred for egg-laying or meat production.

According to the vet, Fancy chickens are bred to have specific traits such as the color of feathers or the shape of their body.

The fancy chicken was first created in the 1800s by crossing different breeds and selecting desired traits.

In the early 1900s, they were popular among poultry farmers. They were easy to care for and could be kept in small backyards.

There are more than 700 breeds of chickens.

Fancy chicken is a type of domesticated chicken that is bred for its aesthetic qualities. They are also known as ornamentals, exhibitions, or show chickens.

These breeds typically have large feathers and combs through which they display their beauty.

In the 19th century, people took great interest in breeding fancy chickens for shows and exhibitions. Their height and weight are important factors of beauty.

Fancy chicken is also considered as a status symbol.

I have a long list of fancy chicken breeds in Pakistan. Some of them are Sussex, Australorp, Ayam Cemani, Wyandotte, Sebright, Sumatra, Yokohama, Phoenix, Shamo Aseel, Ko Shamo, Serama, Sultan, Silkie, and many more.

Now I will discuss the most famous fancy breeds of Pakistan.

1. Sussex Chicken.

The Sussex is a dual-purpose British breed. It is also raised as a show bird. It is easy to keep.

It is available in seven different colors like red, brown, white, buff, and silver.

Sussex chickens are innocent, alert, and upright. The Sussex chicken has a wide flat back, a deep breast, and a broad shoulder.

Their tail is set at 45 degrees. They have a single comb and red earlobes.

The original speckled Sussex chickens are a cross between white-fleshed table birds and an imported Brahma.

The Sussex lays around 180 to 200 medium-sized eggs in their first year. They are also famous for meat production.

The large light Sussex hen is most famous in Pakistan.

The cost of adult Sussex is 5000 to 10,000. Whereas the price of chicks is 300 to 600.

The weight of an adult male is 1.5-4.1 kg and the weight of a female is 1.1-3.2 kg.

2. Australorp Chicken.

The Australorp chicken is a new arrival in the chicken breed. It creates a great impression on chicken keepers.

The name Australorp is a combination of Australia and Orpington chicken breeds. It was called by different names before Australorp was settled upon.

Australorp Black hen farming in Pakistan is highly demanded in the chicken farming sector.

It is famous for its record-breaking potential for laying eggs.  It is a heavy-weight chicken and produces a good quality of meat.

It is available in three different colors black, splash, and white.

The cost of an adult Australorp in Pakistan is 5000 to 10,000. Whereas the price of chicks is 100 to 300 rupees.

3. Ayam Cemani

The Ayam Cemani is a rare breed of chicken from Indonesia. They have a dominant gene that causes the chicken to be mostly black.

The surprising thing is it has every body part in black color like feathers, beak, plumage, tongue, meat and even their bones are black. But the color of the eggs is white. Its life span is 6-8 years.

Pakistani breeders take great interest in the breeding of Ayam Cemani. Its unique features make it famous among Pakistani people.

They are available in Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.

 This breed is considered the most expensive chicken breed. It has a single black color.

The cost of Ayam Cemani in Pakistan is 25000 to 30,000 rupees. The price of the chick is 1000 to 5000.

4. Sebright

The Sebright is a British breed of bantam chicken. It is a miniature bird with no corresponding large version.

It is also considered an exhibition bird. They produce 52 eggs annually.

It is trending in Pakistan nowadays. It is famous for its laces design. Silver and golden Sebright are more famous in Pakistan.

They are available in six beautiful colors golden, silver, buff, lemon, blue, and white.

The cost of Sebright in Pakistan is 20,000 to 25,000. The price of the golden chick is 1200 and the buff 1500.

5. Silkie

You also want to know the reason for the name Silkie like me.

It is because this unusual–looking bird is completely covered in soft and silky feathers.

Additionally, Silkie has five toes on each foot, blue earlobes, black skin, beak, and bones. These features add beauty to its uniqueness.

Silkie is thought to have originated in Pakistan, India, and Japan by specific experts and breeders.

They are called exhibitions or show birds. However, they are poor egg layers. They lay 120 eggs in a year.

The cost of Silkie in Pakistan is 20,000 to 25,000. The price of the golden chick is 1200 and the buff 1500.

6. Golden Buff Heavy.

 Golden fancy chickens are a breed of chicken with fur on their foot. They are available in golden color.

They are very famous among Pakistani breeders. They have an excellent temperament and lays a lot of eggs.

They have heavy weight and large height.

The cost of a Golden Buff heavy chick is 250-350 Rs the cost of an Adult golden is 3000-4000 Rs.
